Getting ready to head out on another fun camping trip? Check out these tips for the perfect pack for a weekend getaway. Anyone who has ever packed for a trip has probably made the mistake of overpacking, but if you stick to these guidelines, you’ll have just what you need to make it through a fun weekend with your RV.
Make a List
Before you even start packing, take a few minutes and come up with a list of things you think you’ll need for your weekend getaway. Go ahead and write it down, that way you’ll know you won’t forget anything. Make sure to include:
-
- Clothing—long and short-sleeved shirts, long and short pants, undergarments, coat, socks
-
- Makeup/toiletries—makeup, face wash, hair styling products, comb/brush
-
- Shoes—good tennis shoes, shower shoes
-
- Accessories—essential jewelry, phone charger, hats
Narrow Down Your List
Unless you’ve gone with a minimalist packing approach before, you’ll want to go through your list and remove anything you absolutely can’t live without. Take a moment to think about other times you’ve traveled and have had items that you never even touched during your trip, even though you thought you would. Eliminate anything you think you can live without for two days!
Check the Weather Forecast
Before you pack a bag full of shorts, check the weather forecast for your camping destination up until a couple days before you leave. This will give you a general idea of what to pack. Even if the weather says it’s supposed to be hot the whole time, still bring at least one warm outfit in case it rains or the temperature drops.
How Much To Pack?
Although you’ve determined what you’ll want to bring along for your trip, you’ll want to really think about the quantity of items that you’re packing. As a general rule of thumb, you’ll want to pack one more complete outfit than the number of days you’re staying. This gives you a backup in case you spill on yourself, get wet, or stain something! You might be able to get away with a couple of pairs of pants, but you can always bring a few more shirts, just in case. When it comes to toiletries, you’ll have to set a limit on how much you bring. You should already have items like toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner, and soap in your RV’s bathroom, so think about which makeup and haircare items you simply can’t live without. If you want to bring your entire makeup collection, that’s up to you, but you’ll probably be able to get away with a tube of mascara and some tinted moisturizer! Also, look to see if you can get travel-sized versions of any product you’re bringing, which will save a lot of space.
Pack Efficiently
Because there is limited space within your suitcase/RV wardrobes, you may need to get strategic about your packing tactics! There are plenty of different ways to fold clothing, so look around and see what will work best with your items. One way to pack efficiently is to roll all of your clothing instead of folding it. Also, keep all the toiletries you can in one place using a makeup bag or plastic zippered bag. If you save room in your pack, you can maybe afford to bring a little more than you need!
