Port Crescent State Park

Port Crescent State Park is located in Port Austin, Michigan, in the thumb of Michigan, and stretches three miles along Lake Huron’s Saginaw Bay. The park has forested areas, wetlands, and some of the best sand dunes and beaches on the eastern side of the state. There is plenty to do in the park’s 640 acres.


Hiking

Lace up your boots and hit the trails! The park has seven miles of trails that go in and out of the woods, wetlands, and along the shoreline! Taking a day hike is a great way to see wildlife, wild flowers, and enjoy being in nature!


Fishing

Port Crescent State Park has a fishing deck! Step out onto it and cast your line in hope of catching dinner! Or walk along Pinnebog River and try your luck there! If you want to get out on the water, rent a canoe and launch it for a relaxing ride on a sunny day!


Michigan Explorer Program

Calling all kids! As you travel to different parks, ask at the information desk if there is an Explorer Program! It’s a great way to get kids involved and to learn more about nature!


Swimming

Take a splash in Saginaw Bay or spend the day relaxing on shore and soaking up the sun! Build a sand castle or wiggle your toes in the sand! Being right on Lake Huron in Saginaw Bay is something you don’t want to miss out on!


Hunting

Calling all hunters! When the leaves change colors, the park comes alive with white-tailed deer, turkey, and water foul! Hunters must have the proper permits!


Winter

When the snow falls, enjoy hiking and cross-country skiing on the powdered trails!


Other Things Around The Park

Port Crescent State Park has beach houses located on the sandy shore! If you’re planning a picnic, check out the picnic areas and picnics shelters that can be reserved any time of the year! There is a playground for the kiddos too! An observation deck offers day and nighttime activities! During the day, it’s the perfect spot to see migrating birds of prey in the spring and fall! When the sun sets, the platform is the perfect spot for stargazing!


Camping

The park has 137 modern campsites! Each campsite has a view of the shoreline! There is also a fairly new miniature cabin that can sleep up to six people! There is a pet-friendly section with a shoreline view as well!

The thumb of Michigan offers plenty of fun things to do if you feel like getting away from the state park for a day!


Port Austin

Port Austin is the largest community closest to the park! Here you’ll find golf, restaurants, and the Port Austin Farmer’s Market! Or burn it up on the track and take the family out for a few hours of go-karting!


Turnip Rock

Turnip Rock is a small geological rock formation just off the shore on the tip of Michigan’s thumb! As the rock formation is on private property, the only way to see it is by boat! Head over to Port Austin Kayaks to rent kayaks and stand-up paddleboards by the hour, day, or week. Get there early during the summer though because their equipment goes fast!
