At the very least, it is a good idea to inform your primary care physician of your nomadic tendencies so that they’re not caught off guard if pharmacies call them outside of your ‘residing’ state.’
Nationwide Pharmacies
Chain pharmacies like Walgreens, CVS, and even Walmart are available all over the country, and they can be a dependable source of accessing your prescriptions. When you have your medications filled at one of these stores, your information will be in their system across all locations, so transferring your prescriptions and having them filled at various destinations is simple. You may even be able to set a new location online, if that’s your method of renewal. Many nationwide pharmacies will even accept faxed scripts directly from your doctor!
Mail-Order Pharmacies
This option works great if the medications you use don’t require refrigeration. With mail-order pharmacies, you can have your prescriptions, sometimes up to a 90-day supply, mailed to your permanent mailing address. You can then have them forwarded to your current residing location. Some campgrounds will allow UPS or Fedex to house packages at their office or even deliver them right to your campsite! Just make sure you order your medications well before you run out so there is plenty of time for your new prescription to be filled, shipped, and delivered. You will also want to make sure that the online pharmacy you use is verified through the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy’s VIPPS site.
