About The Park

Located in the heart of Colorado in Colorado Springs, Garden of the Gods is renowned for its breathtaking sandstone formations, and it features an incredible visitor’s center that teaches visitors about the history and environment of the park! Voted #1 city park in the USA, this park is entertaining no matter your age! Discovered in August of 1859, it was named by its two founders, who were surveyors looking for a new townsite. One saw the sandstone formations and suggested it would be a great place for a beer garden, while the other deemed it “a fit place for the gods to assemble!” It has been known as the Garden of the Gods ever since! Today, Garden of the Gods offers visitors countless opportunities to explore the natural wonder that can be found throughout the park! Admission to the park and visitor’s center is free, encouraging everyone to come enjoy the breathtaking views, learn about the local wildlife and land formations, and develop a deep appreciation for the nature that surrounds them!

Visitor and Nature Center

The Garden of the Gods visitor and nature center is loaded with fun activities that is sure to spark the interest of people of all ages! Complete with several exhibits, an awesome theater, a cafe, and a gift shop, there’s some to keep everyone pleased!


There’s no shortage of learning at the Garden of the God’s visitor and nature center! Various exhibits give visitors plenty of opportunity to learn about the influences of the area, including geology exhibits, a flora and fauna gallery, and multiple exhibits about people and history! Be sure to check out the exhibit of the Theiophytalia kerri, which was a dinosaur originally unearthed in Garden of the Gods back in 1878, but was forgotten until 1994 and led to the discovery of a new species!

Gift Shop

For the shoppers of your group, the visitor center features a great gift shop, which was voted the “best in Colorado Springs” and features a great array of gifts for everyone! You’ll find books, toys, and postcards, and be sure not to miss the American Indian jewelry and pottery!


The visitor’s center also features a great cafe that offers a variety of unique and tasty treats to keep you fueled up on your adventure! Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, you can dine on delicious fare no matter what time you visit! Try the buffalo burger or the elk bratwurst if you’d like something out of the ordinary!

Things To Do

Hiking and Biking

Not only will you enjoy some great views while visiting Garden of the Gods, but you’ll be able to traverse this beautiful landscape at your leisure! With 15 miles of trails, there is something for everyone of any skill level! There is also a great system of bike trails, with all one-way roads featuring paved bike lanes designated for cyclists!

Mountain Climbing

Garden of the Gods is a great opportunity for climbing enthusiasts to test their skills! The breathtaking sandstone formations provide fun, challenging climbs that can last a few hours or a whole day! Just fill out the registration form, grab your climbing equipment, and you’ll be scaling these peaks before you know it!

Guided Tours

For a tour from a knowledgeable park volunteer, go on a free guided nature walk and learn about the landscape and the history of the park! If you’d like something a little more unique, you can embark on a bus, Jeep, or Segway tour for a fee! These are fun ways to get a better look at the park!

Gallop in the Park Weekly 5k Fun Run

Every Thursday, Garden of the Gods city park offers a 5k fun run for visitors! This non-competitive run is offered to visitors of all ages and is a great way to see the park in its full glory! There are five different trails, three of which are available each week, including a trail for strollers and kids. You can reserve your spot online on the Garden of the Gods website!

Children’s Programs

A number of fantastic kid’s activities makes Garden of the Gods an amazing place for family time! Young visitors will not only love the exhibits, but a number of special events and presentations are held to let kids learn about the wildlife and landscape. If you have a couple hours to spare, the Junior Ranger program is available to children ages 7-12. It leads them through a series of activities that are both engaging and informative. When completed, kids will become Junior Rangers and will receive a certificate and get their names announced over the PA system!

Rock Ledge Ranch

When visiting Garden of the Gods, a stop at Rock Ledge Ranch is a must! Located right across the street from the city park’s visitor and nature center, it’s another spectacular historical site that gives visitors a glimpse of the area through the ages, from its native inhabitants to settlers moving west. There are several preserved and restored original structures that still remain so you can get an idea of what life was like back in the day!


Garden of the Gods RV Resort

This wonderful RV park is a great spot to settle in with your RV while visiting the Garden of the Gods! You’ll enjoy your stay with two heated swimming pools, an on-site gift and convenience store, game room, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a community lounge! Cheyenne Mountain State Park

Although this campground is about 20 minutes away from Garden of the Gods, it’s a pleasant place to set up your RV and relax! You can’t beat the views of the surrounding landscapes, and the view of the city lights at night is awesome! The park is open year round, so you can visit during the winter months too! Enjoy your stay with archery, biking, hiking, educational programs, and horseback riding! There are 51 full-service sites and ten basic tent sites, Reservations can be made online here!
